Autodesk Inventor - Creating Secondary Flange Features - Flange

Secondary Flange Features

Creating  Secondary Flange Features in Autodesk Inventor.

Flange:

The Flange feature creates a flange on a Face. The Flange feature can also create a Flange on a Contour Flange And Lofted Flange.

To create a Flange:

Select Flange feature.

Select whether you want to select just 1 edge, or a loop.

Circled in the image below is:

Edge Select Mode: Which will allow you to select only 1 edge.

Loop Select Mode: Which will select all edges when you select an edge on a face. This will also apply corner seam to all corners where flanges meet. If you apply 1 Flange at a time, using Edge Select Mode, this will not apply Corner Seam. You will have to apply the Corner Seam feature after the Flange feature.

Then you need to choose your Height Extends. Distance or To. With distance you just add the Distance you want to Flange to be. With To, you select a vertex. Then you can then offset from the vertex if needed.

Next is Flange Angle. Where you type in the angle you want your Flange to be.

Bend Radius is determined by Sheet Metal Defaults. You can change if you want Bend Radius to be different.

Height Datum is where the Flange is measured from. This is usually not changed.

Bend Position

Bend Position. The line in the little images is the edge of the face you are putting the Flange on. Shown below are examples of how the bend is placed when the different Bend Positions are applied.

Inside of Bend Face extends

Bend from the adjacent face

Outside of base face extends

Bend tangent to side face

Width Extends

Edge

If Edge is selected then the Flange will be placed along the whole Edge selected.

Width

If Width is selected, then you can select the Width of the Flange, from the center of the edge selected. Or Offset. You can select an edge you want the Flange to be offset from. Place your offset distance, then place the Flange Width.

Offset

If Offset is selected then you select the 2 edges that you want your Flange to be Offset from. And then place in the distance you want your Flange to be Offset from.

From To

If From To is selected you select where you want Flange to start, and select where you want your Flange to end. In the example below i have used a plane to select where i want the Flange to end. This doesn't have tot be a plane.
