Autodesk Inventor - How to create Sheet Metal Defaults and save as Template.
Sheet Metal
Defaults in Autodesk Inventor
In this part I will show you how to apply Sheet Metal
Defaults in Autodesk Inventor.
First start a new Sheet Metal file.
Then click the Sheet Metal Defaults tab. Circled in red.
Next select the pencil next to the Sheet Metal Rule.
This will bring up the box where you can apply the
information to make you model flat pattern correctly.
In this box you can create a new Sheet Metal Rule, of
whatever Thickness you want.
I will still be using 0.9mm, in an 8mm Vee.
To create a new rule, click the New… button.
Left click Default_mm, and select New Style.
Then name your rule the material thickness you want to use.
In this case .9mm.
Next from the material from the drop down menu, select your
material. Steel in my case.
Next in the Thickness box, type in your Thickness.
Next enter the value you want in the, Miter/Rip/Seam Gap. I
have mine at .1.
This can be any value you want. I have .1 as I like my Seam
gap to be as close as possible.
Now to get on to the Bend page, select the Bend tab.
Next select your Relief Shape from the Relief shape drop
down list.
Type in your Bend Radius. Mine is 1.2, as using .9mm in an
8mm Vee.
Choose your 2 Bend Intersection, Relief Shape. I have mine
as Arc Weld.
Select the pencil next to, Unfold Rule.
This will open the Unfold Rule.
Where you can see the K-Factor value is .44.
The K-Factor will always be .44.
You can change this is you wish to.
Once you have applied all these settings, then you can set
up another thickness you will be using. If you are going to be using another
Thickness. So you can use all the Thickness’ in Multibody sheet Metal. Which is
explained further on.
Templates
Once you have set up your Sheet Metal Defaults. You can now
save as a template if you wish.
Select file, Save as, Save copy as Template.
The Templates will be saved to this location.
Computer / Local Disc (C :) / Users / Public / Public
Documents / Autodesk / Inventor 2018 / Templates
You are now set up to start creating your model. Just remember to save your .ipt as a new name. Else you will save over the Template.
